Epsman
Institute Programs and Services:
Jewish
Heritage Video Collection
The LJCC houses the Jewish Heritage
Video Collection, a library of nearly 200 film and television
programs, on topics ranging from American Jewish experience
to religion and identity, and including features and documentaries,
American and foreign productions. Many of the tapes
are not generally available in video stores. Most
of the Collection arrived in September, and more will be
arriving soon. The
JHVC display case is located in our Fitness Center Lobby. Videos
may be rented for $2 each, and may be kept for one week. You
may rent a maximum of 5 videos at a time. Educators
may borrow videos at no charge for classroom use. The
JHVC is available at the LJCC thanks to the generosity of David,
Carol, Hannah and Ryan Kahn.
Historical
Archive Project
Many
years of physical records of the LJCC (newsletters, newspaper
articles, meeting minutes, photographs, etc.) have been scanned
in and stored in a
computer database. This database will soon be available
for those interested in doing research about the Birmingham
Jewish community, ultimately to be accessible in the future
LJCC Epsman Institute facility.
Historical
Timeline Panels
Panels have been produced illustrating the hisotry
of the Birmingham Jewish community, and relating
the LJCC and YMHA history as a major component. These panels
will ultimately be on display in the future LJCC
Epsman Institute facility.
"Let's Talk About It:
Jewish Literature"
Beginning
in January 2005, this series of
book discussions, made possible by a grant from the
American Libraries Association, will
be held at the Emmet O'Neal Library in Mountain Brook. Discussions
will be led by Rabbi Scott Hausman-Weiss of Temple
Emanu-El, and the program will be co-sponsored by
the LJCC's Epsman Institute .
